Fruit Picking Fun!

In class 6 we are thinking about performance poems. We started by looking what features were in the poem.

Here are some of them:

Repetition

Rhyming couplets

Verses

Then we started to make it more exiting by adding changes in the volume of our voices and adding actions and sound effects.

Here is our poem, Fruit Picking:

Our Wonderful Canopic Jars

Over the last few weeks in Art, Class 6 have been making canopic jars. We looked at some pictures of the ones Egyptians used. Then in the next lesson we designed our own jars- we put on thing’s that are special to us like our pets or our hobbies. In the next lesson we got the clay out and made the bottom part of our canopic jars. The lesson after that we had some round card and coloured it and that was the lid for the head to sit on.  We then made the head of the jar and left the pot to dry. The next time we painted the jar.

Here are our finished pots:

Canopic Jars

In Art this half term we have been busy designing and making our own canopic jars.

These jars were originally used by the ancient Egyptians in the mummification process.  When the organs were removed from the dead body, they were put into canopic jars to keep them safe so they could be passed into the afterlife.

The children’s task was to design a 5th canopic jar.  Here are some photos of class 6 making the bottom part of their jar.  They used a coil technique to help them make the pot strong and then etched a design onto the clay to decorate them using different clay tools.

Next week, we will be making the top of the jar.  The children have designed their lids with something which is special to them.

  • They could include good vocabulary and punctuation
  • You can say that you like our work or blog post, but include words like because  so that we know why you like our work

  • Leave a link back to your blog (if you have one) so that we can have a look too
  • If we have blogged about a poem or story, could you write your own one in the comment box?
